Furthermore, project experts produced analysis on current and potential use of renewable energy in South Kola region. The findings of the research and fieldwork were used for the development of the Action Plan for the cities of Kirovsk and Kandalaksha with the aim to share know-how and to assist the municipalities with planning and implementing future energy efficiency activities. In the long term, the Action Plan supports the continuation of the efficient energy management process in the programme region, after the project’s end. ENERU project also strongly supported business cooperation in the energy sector and provided European companies with the information on the market conditions and commercial possibilities in the energy efficiency sector in the Barents region. The project organised business seminars, expert exchange and study visits for stakeholders to benchmark successful technologies in the energy sector. Results achieved during the project duration were summarised in the ENERU Handbook. The publication provides useful information on the current situation and development prospects in the energy efficiency sector in the region for the broad range of stakeholders – experts, businesses, public authorities, all those who are involved in the field of energy efficiency on the daily basis. It includes materials represent each partners’ expertise and strength in the target area. Project received positive feedback from stakeholders in all partner countries. Partners gained new knowledge and understanding on energy issues. Triple Helix collaboration between local authorities, science organisations and businesses have been very useful because: business and municipal authorities have received expert advice, scientific development is based on the real needs of business and government, enterprises’ management efficiency was increased and educational organisations received information, which is necessary as they teach professionals knowledge and skills needed on the labor market. The project was recognized and awarded as ‘The best foreign project in energy efficiency’ by the Ministry of Energy of Russian Federation and ‘The best foreign project in the field of energy efficiency, recommended for implementation in the Russian Federation’ at National competition for the energy efficiency projects. http://www.cbcprojects.eu/en/projects/1135
