This ECSEL-IA project – Smart and secure energy solutions for future mobility – Energy ECS will focus on developing European state of the art technologies for future mobility, encompassing various energy related challenges around them, as well as the enabling technologies of ICT infrastructure and electronics hardware that form the basis for related future businesses. With this focus, the project paves the way for the emerging new European business and technology ecosystem.

Energy ECS responds to these needs by developing a set of Electronics, Components and Systems (ECS) technologies to improve the digitalization of e-mobility systems to enable new European know-how and manufacturing capabilities-based business by hardware, software, services and data. This enables interaction with other vehicles and smart mobility infrastructure: connection to grid, intermodal transport, autonomous driving, data generation and vehicles as service providers.

The project consortium includes 16 SMEs, 8 Large Enterprises and 6 RTOs from 8 countries: Austria, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.

Tulokset

The applications in the project will be developed in connection with six different use cases (UCs). The selected use cases have common challenges and needs for ICT infrastructure and electronics hardware, thus developing related technology building blocks that provide synergies for the technology owners. Moreover, the selected use cases interrelate, impacting each other’s functions and business development. The use cases are

UC1 – DroneZones – Autonomous Drone Ecosystem on Mobile platforms: Charging of drones on e-bus rooftop and transportable photovoltaic (PV) based charging stations, including the aspects of safe approaching, fast charging, fleet control and testing.

UC2 – Smart containers in intermodal transport: Enabling the monitoring of containers by battery charging wireless sensors from renewable sources, including the aspects of PV technologies, cargo location and fleet management.

UC3 – Smart grid with e-mobility: Balancing and AI based monitoring of microgrids specifically in connection of charging/discharging of an e-vehicle.

UC4 – Vehicle to grid: Bidirectional onboard and offboard charging technologies for electric vehicles to enable smart V2G applications.

UC5 – Self-powered system in tyres: Kinetic/strain energy harvesting based continuous monitoring of car tyre condition for both improved safety and autonomous driving related needs.

UC6 – Autonomous driving of EV to charging station: E-vehicle or e-bus autonomously driving to charging station at a bus depot area, including real time location, safe approaching and charging.
