Delivery of social and health care education and practice is facing low funding, scarcity of students and staff, and overloaded demand for services. This has impacted the way of educating. There is a need for more cost-effective methods, e.g., more technological-driven opportunities. It is not clear what kinds of technologies can be adopted in practice to enhance professional praxis. This is worse in rural areas which face long distances, and with a few educational institutions to educate professionals.

The aim of this preparatory prject RemoTED is to build a novel view regarding how technologies can enhance professional delivery and education of social and health care. This project enables us to reach relevant stakeholders using bottom-up and data-driven approaches. Outputs are key insights regarding all the relevant stakeholders, which will be used to identify the teaching strategies and the technologies with the most potential in the NPA. Also, this strengthens the consortium to apply for a full project.

Tulokset

Challenges of RemoTED are (1) The healthcare systems are overloaded and moving towards connected health, (2) shortage of social and health care professionals and decreased funding, and (3) barriers to the adoption and development of digital solutions and technologies in praxis for remote social and health care delivery. The needs are: (1) to find out how the use of technology-driven solutions in social and healthcare education can be enhanced, (2) re-thinking and attaining high-quality and cost-effective social and health care education, which is effective for the actual needs of the profession. It is not clear what pedagogical framework can support this type of education. The project will also focus on what is the best approach, (3) We will explore the main challenges such as costs, digital skills, security/privacy, usability, accessibility, etc. This will involve interviews or surveys with stakeholders, such as end-users, health organisations, and SMEs.

The RemoTED project will investigate the challenges and opportunities of delivering social and healthcare education and practice in northern peripheral remote areas by:

·       Taking a comprehensive innovative multimodal approach to data collection such as conducting interviews, observations, workshops, ethnographic research, questionnaires, artefacts. So, the approach has the characteristic of being a data-driven approach, providing valuable results and insights that can be used to inform and improve existing educational and professional practices.

·       This is a bottom-up approach that will also consider the state of the current professional environment. Therefore, one of the objectives will be to understand whether the current social and healthcare digital and technological education practices (e.g., learning and development environments) are meeting the needs of social and health care organisations.

·       The project partners are comprised of multidisciplinary teams, which have versatile expertise in the topics of social and healthcare education and technologies that play a key role in the creation of the different approaches.

The project will result in 1) a Literature review and reports of social and healthcare stakeholders’ needs as well as a report of the vision of technology companies 2) a full project consortium and application for a main NPA project.
