It focuses on the opportunities that arise from implementing Smart City technologies to measure, monitor and improve energy efficiency. The rationale behind this is the consolidation of web, mobile and ICT technology to enable all devices in an ecosystem communicate and interact in a coordinated way. This will extend the Smart City concept to rural communities and villages. It will focus on increasing energy efficiency in a rural setting by piloting the application of Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data into those areas. Data from sensors and other remote devices will be collected, propagated via the internet, and transmitted to end users. Devices will be embedded with intelligent decision-making technology, such as Radio Frequency Identification, 3S technology (i.e. Global Positioning System, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing), Wireless Sensor Networks, and Cloud Computing. Services will be piloted for users to interact with these smart devices, query and analyse their state, control their actions, and ultimately take appropriate measures to improve energy efficiency in buildings, transport and public infrastructure. Tulokset This will deliver a comprehensive platform for rural communities to build on existing strengths and assets – both to tackle the severe challenges they face and to harness new opportunities – to transform their areas. The main principle will be to create a large network – using smart energy management technology and innovations – consisting of different smart objects to facilitate better information sharing and intelligent decision making, from any place and at any time, for the benefit of all rural citizens.
