Lapland University of Applied Sciences is the northernmost UAS in Finland and in the EU focusing on higher education and research, development and innovations. Success in Arctic conditions and utilising the conditions are at the core.
Lapland University of Applied Sciences was established in 2014 as a merger between Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences and Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences.
Lapland UAS operations are governed by the Finnish Limited Liability Companies Act and the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, which stipulates the tasks and management of universities of applied sciences and of their organs.In Finland, universities of applied sciences require permission from the government to operate. In addition to that, the Ministry of Education and Culture steers the operations with four-year agreements that state the key objectives for universities of applied sciences operations and the funding required.
Furthermore, Finnish universities are obliged to participate in external evaluation of their activities and quality systems conducted by The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC).
