XBit Tornio is the newest development and learning environment of Lapland UAS. The opening of the premises was celebrated on April 18.

XBit Tornio serves both teaching, research and development activities as well as companies and other communities. As an environment for digital experience, XBit has to offer the region the application expertise of digital business and service solutions as well as content and service solutions. The environment also serves digital art.

The environment opened in Tornio’s Minerva building has four spaces serving different purposes. You can record recordings and video blogs in the Podcast Studio. In the UX laboratory, the usability testing of the company’s website, online store or, for example, mobile applications is successful.

High-quality videos are filmed in the Video Studio. The studio’s green background fabric makes it easier to edit the background of the video later. In the studio, it is also possible to film a video using the Lightboard. A lightboard is a transparent “chalkboard” on which you can draw with markers. In the VR/AR studio, you can try and test virtual applications (VR) and augmented reality applications (AR). VR applications work with the help of virtual glasses. AR applications use mobile devices.

Manager Marika Saranne wants to encourage entrepreneurs and employers in the region to come to the site and familiarize themselves with the possibilities of modern technology in developing business and customer experiences. When business, visual arts and data processing are studied and taught on the Tornio campus, it is possible to produce solutions based on multi-skills in the XBit environment. The environment with its facilities and business services integrates directly with studying on campus.

– When the students are also involved, we can promise fresh solutions and solutions, Marika Saranne promises.

The environment also serves R&D work around digital solutions. One possible way to test the suitability of environmental services for your own business is to participate in the pilots of ongoing projects at the University of Applied Sciences.
