Student sport services

Welcome to student sports! We offer exercise opportunities that support students’ well-being and endurance. Whether you are interested in group fitness classes, gym workouts, or outdoor activities, you will find various options on this page. Join us and take care of your well-being alongside your studies!

The Wellbeing Instructor will help and advise you on starting exercise and in various matters related to comprehensive wellbeing.

Meetings are possible by phone or video call as well as face-to-face on your campus.

Kemi Areena
Ball games
Ti 17-18 small block


You can play a variety of ball games in the Kemi Arena’s self-service area, and you can also do group exercise in the multi-purpose hall. You can find a playmate by joining the TG group Kemi Sport 24-25.

If you need sports equipment for badminton, different ball games, etc., please contact Mika Vettainen, the well-being instructor, tel. 040 182 6341.

City of Kemi sports services

Students studying in Kemi can use their sports card free of charge at the Kemi swimming pool and gym. You can redeem a sports card at the Kemi Swimming Pool by presenting a valid student certificate or student card.

Kemi also offers a wide range of opportunities to do outdoor sports and explore the local marine nature! Check out the City of Kemi’s Sport and Nature website.

Welfare station Kemi

Welfare station is a multidisciplinary learning and training environment of the Lapland UAS in Kemi, where students of social services, geronomist, physiotherapy and nursing students offer various services under the guidance of teachers and experts.

The starting points of the activity are the promotion of health and overall well-being, customer orientation and multi-professionalism.

Wellness Pass

The Wellness Pass is a service offered to higher education students in Rovaniemi. The Wellness Pass includes various services that promote physical, cultural and social wellbeing.

The Wellness Pass includes exercise passes, gym services, cultural activities and other services that support holistic wellbeing. More information: Wellness Pass – LYY

Hyvinvointipiste Vire Rovaniemi

Hyvinvointipiste Vire is a multidisciplinary learning environment for the bachelor students of sport studies, physiotherapy and nursing. Students provide several kinds of sport and wellness services, supervised by their teachers and other specialists.

From Vire, you will get more energy into your everyday life. You can enjoy sports, feel better and get instructions for a healthier life.

Lapland UAS offers the following sports and wellness services:

Gym (Kauppakatu 35)

Students at the Tornio branch have access to the gym at the Lappia dormitory. The gym has a changing room, toilets and washrooms. Opening hours of the gym, academic year 2024 – 2025, Mon-Sun 7.00-22.00.

Students can claim access (using a mobile phone) from the Student Services Office in the main Lappia building during office hours. In order to obtain a pass, students must present a valid student card with a photo or a student certificate of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences.

Ball games (Urheilukatu 6)

Mondays at 18.00 – 19.00 in the Lappia gym. The key to the gym can be picked up from the key box next to the sports equipment locker on the Minerva campus. For the code, please contact Mika Vettainen on 040 182 6341

For more details on all ball games, you can join the TornioPalloilu 24-25 TG group. There you will be informed about start times, cancellations etc.

Swimming (Tornio city swimming hall)

Swimming is free for all Lapland AMK students.

Instructions: when you go swimming, present your study certificate/student card at the checkout, put your name on the list and go swimming.

LUC ONLINE- guided exercise in your home

Luc Online offers dance, body care and muscle conditioning classes. The recordings are made in collaboration with the Bodycenter and can be found on Facebook. You can access the recordings by sending a request to the well-being instructor: mika.vettainen@ulapland.fi

JUMPPAKAMU – Exercises from students to students

Jumppakamu offers a variety of exercise opportunities including break time exercise, body care and relaxation. The planning and implementation of the sports content is the responsibility of the Vesiliikuntakeskus Kaukavesi, KAMK and Lapland University of Applied Sciences students of physical education, sports planners and the Älyllä Aktiiviseksi -korkeakoulunnan project in cooperation with the City of Kajaani. More information about Jumppakamu (the website is in Finnish, but the exercise videos have English subtitles).

YOGOBE, offers you different yoga styles, tutorials, online meditations for concentration, calmness and growth as well as breathing exercises, prayama for your needs. In addition, the sites also have exercise videos for strengthening, mobility and strength.

Tips on work ergonomics and break exercise

A variety of working postures and taking a break from studying will help you to stay fit and well. Finnish Student Health Services (FSHS) videos and guides give you tips on how to take a break from sitting and what to consider when you’re doing a lot of sedentary study.

Come and have fun downhill skiing and enjoying outdoors at Kalli Ski resort.

Event will be arranged Tuesday 17th of February starting at 12pm.

Prices:

  • 3 hour lift ticket; 15€ (norm 25€) HOXX! (keycard not included)
  • 3 hour rental equipment 15€ (norm. 31€)
  • Other equipment 10€ (norm. 31€)

Example; cross-country skis, snow shoes, sliding snow shoes, sleds.

In addition Ski Café offers, sausage basket 6,50€ (norm. 7,90) soda 0.3 taps for 1,5€ (Norm. 3,5€)

You can also bring your own snacks, there is a possibility to fry the sausage in the campfire place.

The student organizations KeIO and TOKKO are also coming!

KeIO organizes its annual Pull sled with KeIO event at Kalli.

TOKKO organizes a point where the idea is to go down a hill with everything else except a sled.

So put on your overalls and see you there!

Student Bowling Nights

Free student bowling nights  every Wednesday 6 pm to 7 pm Kemi Areena. There is only 2 courts available, so be quick and book your place.

Bowling dates: 4.2, 11.2, 18.2, 25.2, 18.3 and 25.3

The Moving Study program promotes an active lifestyle. The goal of the program is to increase physical activity and improve study ability. The principle of the program is that each educational institution develops an active culture in its own way.

The goal of Lapland University of Applied Sciences is to enhance overall well-being, prevent health problems, and support independent physical activity. We encourage activity by offering well-being and sports services. Shared events and physical activities also increase community and a sense of belonging.
