Individual Arrangements – Supporting Smooth Learning

At Lapland UAS, we want to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn and progress in their studies based on their own circumstances. Individual arrangements are part of learning support and are planned together with the student to promote smooth studies and overall well-being.

Individual arrangements may be needed due to, for example:

• sensory impairment
• anxiety or nervousness
• mental health challenges
• neurological conditions
• neurodiversity, such as ADHD or autism spectrum
• learning difficulties, such as dyslexia
• musculoskeletal disorders

Arrangements may relate to teaching practices or learning environments. The goal is to find practical solutions that support the student’s strengths and reduce potential barriers to learning. These arrangements can be granted for a fixed period or for the entire duration of studies.

The content and implementation are based on the student’s needs and their life and study situation. Support measures may include, for example:

• access to assistive devices
• teaching and guidance situations
• adjustments to the learning environment
• exams and assignment submissions

How to Apply for Individual Arrangements

1. Contact the special education teacher by email. Please use your school email address whenever possible.
   Note: Do not include sensitive information, such as health details, in your message.
2. Prepare the application for individual arrangements together with the special education teacher.
3. Send the completed application to the special education teacher via encrypted email.

4. The decision on granting individual arrangements is made by the Head of Competence for your degree programme.
5. You will receive the decision by email.
6. Always contact the teacher of the course where you wish to use the approved individual arrangements.
   Make sure to do this well in advance of the course start date so the teacher has time to take your arrangements into account.

Once you have received the decision, you can update your Personal Study Plan (PSP) with your study counsellor to ensure the individual arrangements are included.

Student Health Meeting

If a student’s ability to study is impaired for health reasons, the student, the institution of higher education and FSHS representatives should meet to discuss the most appropriate support measures. Read more about Student health meeting from Finnish student health services webpages.
