Build your future in Lapland

Stay With Us is a pilot project designed for international students who want to succeed in their studies and build a career in Lapland. Through pre-arrival training, personalised support, and connections to local life and work opportunities, you will gain a strong foundation before you arrive.

What is Stay With Us?

The Stay With Us pilot project supports international degree students in their transition to life in Lapland.  It has three components:

  1. Provides support through Arrival Assistants for your smooth landing in Lapland.
  2. Provides you the opportunity for Pre-Arrival Training on Finnish Language.
  3. Provides you pre-arrival training on Integration to Finland & Career Opportunities in Lapland. 
  • Additionally, there is opportunity to get more training on Finnish Language after your arrival in Finland.
Arrival Assistants

Arrival Assistants are peer students and they are part of the Arrival services of the Internationalisation Services. They support in pre-arrival prep, guide students with housing and practical matters, assist during orientation, and act as a friendly point of contact to help you settle into your new academic and student life. You can meet the Arrival assistants in the pre-arrival info webinar and as well as in the in the Goin’ platform. Pre-Arrival Online Training
Pre-Arrival Online Training in Finnish language and Integration to Finland and Career opportunities in Lapland is designed to support your smooth integration and long-term employability in Lapland.
With this training, you will:
  • start learning Finnish before arrival
  • understand life and culture in Lapland
  • gain insight into Finnish working life
  • build confidence for studies and job searching
  • connect with support networks early on.
Finnish Language
Finnish Language Training (12 ECTS): develop your Finnish skills through a structured series of courses (Finnish 1–4). Read more on the detailed schedules of the courses below.

Integration to Finland & Career Opportunities in Lapland

It’s a training for your integration with the culture, society and work life here in Lapland. It will prepare you for your future in Lapland with practical guidance and career-focused training.

How to Join?

1. Thank you for your interest. The interview process for the Finnish language training has now ended, and the participants have been selected. The online training will begin on 18 May at 15:00 (Finnish time).
All selected participants have already received a confirmation email regarding their participation in the online course. We would like to sincerely thank you for your time and participation in the interview process. Your interest reflects a strong motivation to learn Finnish, and we truly appreciate your enthusiasm and commitment.We hope you will continue your journey and stay with us.

Do these! -Before starting your studies

Accept your study place and register for the academic year:

a) If you are not required to pay tuition fees

In addition to accepting the study place, you must register as an attending or non-attending student for the autumn semester 2026 and for the spring semester 2027 by a set date.

Register electronically at the Oili service in the My StudyInfo service or use the link you have received on Offer of admission in Studyinfo –email. If you are unable to register, please send an email to admissions@lapinamk.fi

Please note that you will lose the study place if you do not register by the deadline. For further information admissions@lapinamk.fi

b) If you are required to pay the tuition fees

By paying the tuition fee, you automatically register as an attending student for the academic year 2026/2027. You can find more information of the tuition fees here.

Start applying for a residence permit immediately after receiving your acceptance letter. The process can take several months.

Your application will be processed only after you have visited a Finnish embassy. Also, the estimated processing time of your application starts from the day you visit the embassy.

Please note that the Finnish Immigration Service makes the decisions about residence permits totally independently. Therefore, Lapland UAS cannot influence on any decision-making nor speed up the process.

Please note that it is very important to apply an accommodation on time and have it ready before arriving in Kemi or Rovaniemi. The beginning of each semester is a busy time and student housing will be filled up very quickly.

According to the Degree regulations of Lapland UAS the right to study remains conditional until the student has presented the original certificates on which their admission is based.

Students accepted to bachelor’s degree programmes, who do not have a Finnish secondary degree/higher degree, must present in person the original certificates on which the admission is based at the campus
in Kemi
, no later than September 25, 2026.
In Rovaniemi, no later than October 19, 2026. 

Finnish certificates of eligibility to apply are primarily checked using the KOSKI – and SURE – services.

Please notice that if the Lapland UAS cannot verify the original certificates by the given deadline (mentioned above), you will lose your study right.

Studying at Lapland UAS is often independent of time and place, which is why students must have a laptop. Our students can download Microsoft Office products on their computers for free (Mac version does not contain Microsoft Access), but they are responsible for the maintenance of their terminal device. Please remember to always install the latest updates to your device to protect your data. For more demanding data processing and special applications, the computers of the UAS are used.

During your studies make sure that you have access to USB headsets and broadband internet.

Suitable computers for studying:
 A Windows or Mac laptop
• Tablet computer with Windows operating system

Not suitable for studying:
• tablet without Windows operating system
• Linux operating system

Note! Minimum laptop requirements for an engineering student in the ICT field:

  • At least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB or more recommended)
  • 64-bit Intel or AMD processor, 4 cores or more and support for virtualization
  • 64 bit Windows operating system, Home or Pro (not Starter)
  • A separate graphics card with at least 4GB of display memory
  • At least 500 GB of storage space
  • Mac OSX or Linux are not suitable, nor are devices with M1 or similar processors

It is really important to take all health and vaccination information with you when coming to study in Finland. Please print or save the English versions of the health documents of yours up on your arrival.

Your child will need a residence permit to arrive and live in Finland. Please see the Finnish Immigration Service’s instructions and apply for a suitable permit.

In Finland, everyone has the right to basic education free of charge. Basic education covers early childhood education and care, one year of pre-primary education, basic education and upper secondary education. Health care instructions for children arriving to Lapland, please bring the following documents from your home country in English:

  • All vaccination information
    • including information about possible tuberculosis vaccination
  • Other health information e.g. illnesses, medications, etc.
