The Finnish Olympic Committee has awarded Lapland University of Applied Sciences the Elite Athlete Friendly University quality label. Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Lapland UAS) supports the dual careers of athletes by offering flexible study options, guidance and academic support. At Lapland UAS, student-athletes’ everyday life is verifiably more functional, and the study guidance practices effectively support the combination of sports and studies.
Student-athletes’ well-being and ability to study are closely linked to how successfully they can combine sports and studies into a balanced whole. This requires personalised study paths and flexible study options, high-quality student guidance, as well as support for combining sports and studies.
We offer versatile guidance services to support student-athletes’ smooth progression in studies. We continuously develop our guidance, and it’s available throughout the studies. “Everyone guides” is a principle of Lapland UAS, meaning that guidance is provided not only by student counsellors, but also by teachers and experts of different services.
The student-athlete application is submitted at the start of the studies. Based on the application, Lapland University of Applied Sciences awards a student-athlete diploma to students who meet the criteria of an athlete. Student-athletes can be supported, where possible, in the following ways, for example:
