Tuition Fee at Lapland UAS

At Lapland University of Applied Sciences tuition fees will be charged from the non-EU/EEA citizens who accept a study place in an English-taught Bachelor or Master degree programme starting on 1 September 2017 or later.

The fees will not concern:

  • citizens of the European Economic Area or equivalent
  • EU Blue Card holders
  • persons with a continuous or permanent residence permit or an EU residence permit granted for a third-country national with a long-term resident status, family members of the above mentioned. Residence permit has to be granted in Finland.
  • non-EEA citizens, who study in Finnish (the degree programme is taught Finnish).

Permits granted from 15 April 2022: Under the new act, the type of permit for students who are studying in degree programmes taught in English will be changed from temporary (B) to continuous (A). Degree students are not absolutely exempt from tuition fees, although they will receive a continuous residence permit in the future.

To be exempt from paying tuition fees you have to send us copy of your passport or copy of valid acceptable residence permit. You can send your copy by email to the address globalschool@lapinamk.fi. You have to send us a copy of  your passport or a copy of valid acceptable residence permit by using a  
secure email.

Please notice that a student obliged to pay an annual tuition fee under the Universities of Applied Sciences Act (932/2014, Section 13a) shall pay the tuition fee according to the procedure specified by the university of applied sciences. The right to study is conditional until such time that the student has presented the original certificates used as a basis for admission and paid any tuition fee. The university of applied sciences shall return paid tuition fee to a student who is subject to a tuition fee and has lost his/her right to study.The amount of tuition fees depends on the starting year of your studies. Below you find information on procedures and scholarship systems.

YKI TEST INFORMATION

Please notice that during your second year of studies you need to start preparing yourself for YKI test.

In order to have a scholarship for third year student need to pass YKI test before his/her third year studies (deadline usually 31.7.).

When a student applies for a scholarship based on completing the Finnish language assessment test (YKI) and progress of studies, the YKI test result will be accepted only when at least 3 sectors out of 4 are passed on a level 2 or 3.

YKI test will also follow you for your forth study year. During your third year of studies, you need to prepare yourself for passing YKI on level 3.

Scholarships at Lapland University of Applied Sciences for international degree programme students from outside the EU and EEA states.

Scholarships for a Bachelor’s degree programme:

At Lapland UAS, the annual tuition fee for international students from outside the EU and EEA states is EUR 9,500 per academic year.

Third year students
A student receives a scholarship on the basis of completing the Finnish assessment test (YKI) and the progress of studies. The student must have completed at least 120 credits after the second year. Students who have achieved level 2 or 3 in language proficiency and made progress in their studies will receive a scholarship of EUR 4,750. The results of assessment tests completed during studies will be accepted.

Fourth year students
A student receives a scholarship on the basis of completing the Finnish assessment test (YKI) and the progress of studies. The student must have completed at least 180 credits after the third year. Students who have achieved level 3 in language proficiency and made progress in their studies will receive a scholarship of EUR 1,500 in degree programmes of 210 credits and EUR 3,000 in degree programmes of 240 credits. The results of assessment tests completed during studies will be accepted.

Discretionary scholarships:

Lapland UAS may provide a discretionary scholarship for students from outside the EU and EEA states accepted through a separate application process for completing their studies when the student has completed all studies with the exception of the thesis. The scholarship (50% of the annual tuition fee) will be provided retroactively if the student can complete their degree within the target time. The discretionary scholarship is subject to a separate application process.

Tuition fee for a Master’s degree programme:

At Lapland UAS, the annual tuition fee for international students from outside the EU and EEA states is EUR 9,500 per academic year. There are no scholarships for Master’s students.

Scholarships for education leading to a Bachelor’s degree

At Lapland University of Applied Sciences, the tuition fee for international students from outside the EU and EEA countries is €8,000/academic year. A student is entitled to receive one scholarship per academic year.

First-year students

Scholarship based on quick confirmation of the study place:

A student is granted a 50% scholarship (€4,000) prior to beginning their studies if the admitted student confirms the study place within 10 days of the publication of the admission information, enrols for attendance and pays 50% of the tuition fee (€4,000).

Students in years 2–4

Scholarship based on the progress of studies:

A student is granted a scholarship based on the progress of the studies. If a student completes 60 ECTS credits or more during an academic year,  the student will be granted a scholarship covering 25% of the tuition fee. A student can receive a scholarship up to three times.

Scholarship based on the proficiency in Finnish language  and progress of studies:

A student receives a scholarship on the basis of passed Finnish 1 and Finnish 2 study units and the progress of studies. The student must have completed at least 60 credits after the first year. The amount of the scholarship is EUR 4,000.

3. Third year students
A student receives a scholarship on the basis of completing the Finnish assessment test (YKI) and the progress of studies. The student must have completed at least 120 credits after the second year. Students who have achieved level 2 or 3 in language proficiency and made progress in their studies will receive a scholarship of EUR 4,000. 4. Fourth year students
A student receives a scholarship on the basis of completing the Finnish assessment test (YKI) and the progress of studies. The student must have completed at least 180 credits after the third year. Scholarships for education leading to a Master’s degree

At Lapland University of Applied Sciences, the tuition fee for international students from outside the EU and EEA countries is €8,000/academic year.

Scholarship based on the progress of studies:

A Master student is granted a scholarship of €2,000 if the Master student graduates within the target time frame.

Discretionary scholarship

The University of Applied Sciences may grant discretionary scholarships in addition to the aforementioned reasons. There is no application procedure for receiving a discretionary scholarship.

Scope of application

In order to make a tuition fee payment for the Lapland University of Applied Sciences you need to make a bank transfer.

Please notice

  • When paying by wire transfer, sender must pay ALL transfer fees
  • Payment must be in full – there is no possibility to pay in installments
  • Pay the fee completely until the due date

New students: The detailed instructions for paying the tuition fee will be sent by email at the same time with the acceptance information.
Continuing students: The detailed instructions for paying the tuition fee will be sent by email by the end of March. Usually the due date for the payment is on May 31st.

How to apply for a refund of the tuition fee

In some situations we will refund the paid tuition fee.

By refunding you have to inform us of:

  • Your name and address
  • The name of the account holder
  • The name of your bank
  • The address of your bank
  • Your IBAN account number
  • The BIC/ SWIFT code of your bank
