Transfer application

Through the transfer student application process, you can apply to transfer your study right to Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Lapland UAS) from another higher education institution, or to a different degree programme within Lapland UAS, provided that you already are a degree student at Lapland UAS and your degree title will change. As a student at Lapland UAS, you can also apply to change your study right from one degree programme to another without a change to your degree title (e.g. from an engineer to an engineer).

Through the transfer application process, you can transfer your study right:

  • To Lapland UAS if you have a study right for a degree at another Finnish higher education institution, or
  • To another degree programme within Lapland UAS if you already are a degree student at Lapland UAS and your degree title will change (e.g. from a Bachelor of Business Administration to a Bachelor of Hospitality Management).

Application periods for transfer applications:

  • 1 May – 15 May, study right for the new degree programme begins in August.
  • 1 Nov – 15 Nov, study right for the new degree programme begins in January.

Changing from one degree programme to another within Lapland UAS without a change to the degree title:

  • It’s possible to apply to change degree programmes at any time during the academic year.

Applying for a transfer of study right via My Studyinfo

How to apply to transfer your study right via My Studyinfo:

  • Open the My Studyinfo service: Studyinfo
  • In the search field, enter “Lapland University of Applied Sciences” along with the degree programme you wish to transfer to. You can limit the search results: UAS degree (e.g. nurse), Lapland, Transfer application.
  • Choose the degree programme and then choose Separate application, Lapland UAS, Transfer application and admission to the degree through Open UAS and/or other studies.
  • From the Study programmes available for application section, under Transfer application, choose the degree programme, Transfer application.
  • Fill in the transfer application.

Attach the following to the application:

  • Transcript of records (both in Finnish and English), and
  • Certificate of student status indicating the terms of attendance and absence and the date when your studies started.

Admission results

The applicants of the spring transfer application process receive the results during June at the latest. The results are sent to the email the applicant provided in the My Studyinfo application.

The applicants of the autumn transfer application process receive the results during December at the latest. The results are sent to the email the applicant provided in the My Studyinfo application.

The student must accept the study place in the My Studyinfo service according to the instructions provided by Lapland UAS admission services. After the decision, the applicant must contact the designated Study counsellor and agree on the preparation of their personal study plan.

Transfer between higher education institutions or between degree programmes within the same institution with a change to the degree title

Application periods:

  • 1 May – 15 May for studies beginning in the autumn term (starting on 1 August).
  • 1 Nov – 15 Nov for studies beginning in the spring term (starting on 1 January).

The admission criteria for transfer student selection at Lapland University of Applied Sciences, effective 1 May 2025.

  • The applicant has a valid study right for a degree at a Finnish higher education institute.
  • The applicant’s previous studies enable them to complete the degree within the completion time set for the study right (target time + 1 year).
  • The applicant has been registered as an attending student for at least one term. It’s possible to apply for a transfer at the earliest during the first term the student has registered as attending (transfer takes place at the beginning of the 2nd term).
  • If the language of instruction of the degree programme the applicant is applying for differs from that of their current programme, the applicant’s proficiency in the new language must be sufficient. Language proficiency may be assessed through an interview.
  • In degree programmes taught in English, up to half of the studies may be completed in Finnish or Swedish. In degree programmes taught in Finnish, up to half of the studies may be completed in English or Swedish.
  • The teaching arrangements allow a new student to be admitted to the programme.
  • If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available places in the programme, priority will be given to those applicants who have completed the most studies relevant to the programme (including recognition of prior learning through credit transfers).
  • Applicants to master’s degree programmes (YAMK) must have completed the required basic education for the programme and at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Admissions to Fine arts education include a demonstration of the applicant’s competence. The demonstration must be completed with an accepted grade if the applicant hasn’t previously completed it in connection with an admission to a university of applied sciences.
  • In social work, health and sports programmes the applicant’s health and functional capacity must be suitable for completing the practical tasks and traineeships related to the studies. For this reason, the application form includes a question about health-related factors that may hinder the applicant’s ability to study. Additionally, the applicants are asked whether their previous study right has been cancelled due to health reasons or for endangering the safety of others (Higher Education Institution Act L932/2014).

A Lapland UAS student changes from one degree programme to another without a change in the degree title

(E.g. A transfer from one engineering degree programme to another, or from one business administration programme to another or from a Bachelor of Business Administration to a Bachelor of Business Administration, Business Information Technology).

Changing degree programmes within Lapland UAS

If already you are a student at Lapland University of Applied Sciences, you can apply to change your study right to another degree programme, provided that the degree title remains the same (e.g. from an engineer to an engineer). You can apply to change degree programmes at any time during the academic year.
