Lapland UAS awards the Alumni of the Year title to a person who has actively promoted the university or their own field with exceptional dedication, collaborated closely with the university, or demonstrated perseverance and achievement in their own life. Alumni are graduates of Lapland UAS. For 2025, the UAS alumnus is Riku Salo, a nurse responsible for resuscitation and MET -activities, and the Master’s level alumnus is Antti-Pekka Nevasaari, Regional Safety Manager. Riku Salo works in the intensive care unit at Lapland Central Hospital within the Lapland wellbeing services county, while Antti-Pekka Nevasaari works at Metsä Board’s Kemi board mill. Riku Salo graduated from the Bachelor of Health Care programme, and Antti-Pekka Nevasaari completed the Master’s degree programme in Industrial Ecosystem Management. Alumni of the Year, Riku Salo, comments on co-operation with the UAS: “Collaboration has been easy and smooth, and it has been rewarding to act as a point of contact between students and working life. I have been able to share practical insights and experience from nursing with students, while also gaining new knowledge from the UAS This helps me maintain my professional competence.” Master’s level Alumni of the Year, Antti-Pekka Nevasaari: “Cooperation between working life and educational institutions is important because it helps the UAS develop the content of its studies. Thesis projects give students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with company operations and working life, while also enabling them to develop matters that are important for the company.” Lapland University of Applied Sciences congratulates both Alumni of the Year!
