Lapland University of Applied Sciences is involved in networks that are central to the university’s responsibility work.
In November 2020, universities of applied sciences published a joint sustainable development and responsibility programme based on the sustainable development goals adopted by the UN in 2015. The goal of the programme is to make universities of applied sciences sustainable, responsible, and carbon neutral by 2030.
With the sustainable development and responsibility programme, the education provided by universities of applied sciences will be developed so that every graduate has the ability to promote sustainable development and combat the negative effects of climate change in society. Sustainability and responsibility are taken into account in all RDI activities and are directed towards producing solutions to sustainability challenges, promoting sustainable development, and reducing the effects of climate change. In terms of management and human resources, universities of applied sciences promise to act as economically, ecologically, culturally, and socially responsible employers.

FIBS (Finnish Business & Society) is the largest corporate responsibility network in the Nordic countries, which aims to accelerate responsibility factors towards a more sustainable world. Lapland University of Applied Sciences is a member of FIBS.

The Commitment is a Finnish model for implementing sustainable development. Commitment2050 is a free and voluntary tool for developing organizations’ sustainability work, setting goals, measuring and reporting.
Lapland University of Applied Sciences announced its commitment to implementing its responsibility program in January 2024. With this commitment, Lapland University of Applied Sciences wanted to strengthen its position among other pioneers. Commitment 2050 will contribute to the implementation, monitoring, and communication of the program.

The UN Global Compact is a global network launched in 2000 with the aim of encouraging companies and organizations to adopt sustainable and responsible practices. Lapland University of Applied Sciences joined the UN Global Compact network in spring 2024. Through its membership, Lapland UAS promotes sustainable development and responsible practices, improves and systematizes its training offerings for staff, and brings new initiatives from the networks to the development of the region.
UN Global Compact
Lapland University of Applied Sciences is part of the international SDG Accord network. The purpose of the network is to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education. The network includes more than 300 higher education institutions whose common goal is to promote sustainable development. Each higher education institution in the network implements its commitment in slightly different ways, in line with its own responsibility program. However, network membership can be utilized when considering new project initiatives and consortia, as well as new development initiatives.

Climate University is a Finnish network of universities and universities of applied sciences that develops study programs related to climate change and sustainable development. The network offers open, multidisciplinary learning materials and study modules for higher education students and professionals in various fields.

Lapland University of Applied Sciences is a member of the Ellen MacArthur Association. The aim of membership is to increase expertise in the circular economy. Membership provides an opportunity to network with global players in the circular economy and also contributes to promoting Lapland University of Applied Sciences’ cross-cutting strength in the circular economy.
